SEC opens new community hub in Morwell

24 October 2025

SEC has officially opened its new Morwell hub, strengthening its presence in the Latrobe Valley — the historic heart of Victoria’s energy system.

Morwell hub

Located at 248 Commercial Road, once the site of the former SEC Credit Union, the new hub is a space for the community to learn more about the opportunities the energy transition will bring.

It will allow SEC to work more closely with residents, businesses, students and educators.

The hub includes a public drop-in area where people can learn about SEC, including how to go electric at home and reduce their energy bills. It also features interactive displays demonstrating how renewable energy is generated and stored through wind, solar and storage, as well as how homes can generate, store and use electricity efficiently.

Visitors can also explore a model heat pump and induction cooktop that show how electric appliances can lower costs and emissions.

With its location bringing history full circle, the hub also honours SEC’s deep connection with the Latrobe Valley, with a timeline display, artefacts donated by the Morwell Historical Society, and exhibits that acknowledge SEC’s legacy in the region’s energy story.

The hub will be used for school visits and educational sessions, helping students learn about renewable energy and the wide variety of career opportunities in the sector.

The hub houses SEC’s growing workforce in the region, which now includes 11 people working across community engagement, operations, assets and customer support. Local community organisations can also access the hub’s facilities for meetings, events and community information sessions.

SEC CEO Chris Miller said the new hub reflects the organisation’s commitment to ensuring the Latrobe Valley remains central to Victoria’s energy future.

“We’re delighted to be opening our new hub. We want it to be a welcoming and helpful resource for the community, where both the Latrobe Valley’s role in Victoria’s energy story is honoured and the opportunities created by the energy transition are shared,” Mr Miller said.

“Our team is looking forward to connecting directly with the community, helping people understand the benefits of going electric, as well as supporting businesses to decarbonise, and inspiring local students to pursue careers in renewable energy.”

The hub’s design, construction, fit-out and installation work was delivered by local Latrobe Valley businesses, and local providers are being used for cleaning, catering and ongoing maintenance.

From Monday October 27, SEC’s Morwell hub will be open to the public every Monday, Tuesday and Friday from 10am to 3pm, with school education sessions running on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Bookings can be made by emailing morwell@secvictoria.com.au or calling 1300 310 932.
