Project snapshot

The SEC Delburn Wind Farm is Victoria’s first 100% publicly owned, utility-scale wind generation project just south of the Latrobe Valley in Gippsland.

Once operational in 2028, the 33-turbine wind farm will generate up to 205-megawatts (MW) of renewable energy, enough to power more than 130,000 homes.

Progress: 50% complete

Operational 2028

Generating up to 205 megawatts across a 35-year operational life.

Work on the wind farm’s 33 turbine foundations is progressing well. Our construction crews continue to assemble bolt cages and prepare the turbine foundations. Ten turbine foundations have now been excavated across the site. Approximately 80 tonnes of steel is craned in to reinforce each turbine foundation before concrete is poured.

The first turbine foundation concrete pour is scheduled for November 2026 (subject to weather conditions). With more activities underway, traffic around the wind farm site will increase. This includes increased truck movements on the Strzelecki Highway, between the concrete batch plant on Smiths Road and Golden Gully Road. We appreciate your patience as traffic conditions change.

Upgrade works have commenced on Smiths Road including where it intersects with the Strzelecki Highway. These works are expected to continue until the end of November. Similar upgrades to Deans Road have commenced, with works expected to carry through to mid-January 2027.

Traffic controls may also be in place on Morwell-Thorpdale Road during cable installation works from mid-November.

Regional map

Built in the historical heart of Victoria’s integrated power system

Located in Gippsland, the project serves as a beacon for renewable energy generation investment in the region.

SEC’s anticipated capital expenditure of $600-$700 million brings significant local economic benefits, including more than 300 local work opportunities.

Community programs

Over its 35-year operational life, the SEC Delburn Wind Farm will contribute more than $22 million in neighbour and community benefit sharing programs.

Community Benefit Fund

The SEC Delburn Wind Farm Community Benefit Fund will provide $150,000 annually, with grants of up to $25,000 to support local projects that strengthen communities and deliver positive social, environmental and economic outcomes.

Community Benefit Fund

Offsite Landscaping Program

The SEC Delburn Wind Farm Offsite Landscaping Program (OLP) has been established to support eligible homes neighbouring the project to screen and filter views of wind turbines.
