A. The SEC electric home planner allows you to quickly get estimates for electrical appliance upgrades in your home, replacing gas appliances with efficient electric appliances, such as induction cooktops, hot water heat pumps, split system heaters/coolers, and even installing solar. The platform shows you an estimate of costs, potential bill savings, CO2 emission reductions and how government rebates reduce your investment.

A. Savings are based on your approximate annual costs for gas and electricity, the number of occupants in your household, your current appliances, rooftop space and ultimately the recommended products for your home.

A. The planner is designed to give estimates, so you don't need to be exact. However, you can do one or more of the following to get to a closer approximation.

- Get a recent monthly bill and multiply it by 12. If the bill month is within summer and you don't use much gas, you might want to multiply the figure by 13 to account for a higher winter usage.

- Go into your online account and download an annual summary.

- Take a look at the table below and pick the value that resembles your situation.

A. No. The planner is intended to help you formulate a plan to transition your home to electric. Your next steps are up to you. Using the planner to get a personalised plan can be done without any financial commitment.

A. The estimates are approximations, not quotes. These estimates are based on the information you input into the platform and the upgrades you selected. Estimates are referenced against typical installation costs of the same sort of work. Please note, each home is different and a tailored quote from an installer may vary from this estimate depending on factors including the brands/models of appliances, location of system, single versus double story home. Your home may, for example, require additional electrical work such as a switchboard upgrade. A good installer will discuss factors particular to your home when quoting.

A. The SEC is currently building a trusted network of installers. The SEC is now testing additional functionality that can connect households with vetted installers that service their local area. The SEC will test this additional functionality throughout the remainder of 2024 in the City of Casey, the City of Merri-bek and the City of Ballarat. If you don't live in the above areas, here are a few tips you can use to help find a quality provider:
